Isles of Scilly

Image: Featured Holiday Placeholder

With sub-tropical sandy beaches in the south and rugged heathland to the north, it’s sometimes hard to remember that Tresco is a wholly British island. The gentle Gulf Stream gives the island a mild frost-free climate and exotic flowers flourish in this tiny corner of England.

An optional excursion will be available to Tresco Abbey Gardens, one of the world’s most fascinating botanical experiments. Here you will find a unique collection of plants that flourish in the warm Gulf Steam climate, ranging from South African cacti to Tall Palms from Chile. The Gardens also house the Valhalla Ship’s Figurehead Collection with magnificent figureheads from old sailing ships, each with its own story to tell.

Dublin

Image: Featured Holiday Placeholder

Rich in culture and tradition, the cosmopolitan city of Dublin offers a wealth of attractions including the impressive National Botanical Gardens and historic Dublin Castle. You might also like to join an optional excursion to County Wicklow, celebrated as the ‘Garden of Ireland’, where you can visit the spectacular Powerscourt Gardens, offering 45 acres of formal gardens, sweeping terraces and ornamental lakes together with secret hollows, walled gardens and over 200 variations of trees and shrubs.

Ullapool

Image: Featured Holiday Placeholder

From the delightful port of Ullapool, on the remote North West coast of Scotland, you may wish to join an optional excursion to Inverewe Gardens. Set on a peninsula on the shores of Loch Ewe, Inverewe Gardens are renowned as the star attraction of the National Trust for Scotland, as well as being one of the finest gardens in the whole of Europe. Here you can discover an oasis of greenery and colour, warmed by the Gulf Stream, despite its northern location. Follow the guided paths and admire exotic plants and flowers from around the world.

Scrabster

Image: Featured Holiday Placeholder

The picturesque fishing village of Scrabster is well located for our optional visit to the delightful Castle of Mey, for many years the favourite holiday home of the late Queen Mother. The castle comprises a staggering 38 rooms, including 15 bedrooms, three reception rooms and a library. Although not all of the castle is open to the public, a visit here will enable you to discover just why the late Queen Mother was so fond of it.

North Sheilds

From North Shields, you will have the chance to join an optional excursion to Alnwick Castle and Garden, described by Victorians as the "Windsor of the North" and combining stunning natural beauty with a fascinating history spanning over ten centuries. More recently the castle has been used as a film location for the Harry Potter movies and the garden has been beautifully adapted by TV's Charlie Dimmock to include Britain's largest water feature.
