We’ll also visit the idyllic palace-filled paradise of Kuala Kangsar, home to the fairytale Moorish-style Ubudiah mosque with its glorious golden dome and minarets soaring into the heavens. Along the way we’ll also stop at the Perak Tong, a marvellous limestone cave temple and home to more than 40 statues, the showpiece being a 12.8 metrehigh seated Buddha.

We then begin our journey up into the hills of the Cameron Highlands, a captivating plateau 1,829 metres above sea level surrounded by mist-wreathed mountains and overlooking green terraced tea plantations, rolling hills and deep jungle. Popular as a highland retreat during British colonial rule, the countryside is still studded with old English country inns, chalets and tudor cottages, which once fondly reminded the colonialists of home.
