India - The Taj Mahal & The Golden Triangle

DAY 1:
Join the overnight flight direct to Delhi.

DAY 2:
Morning arrival in Delhi where you will be transferred to our centrally located hotel for a one night stay. This afternoon we include a sightseeing tour of New Delhi, with its wide, tree-lined avenues and elegant colonial buildings. Highlights will include the Qutab Minar - one of the most perfectly preserved towers in the world, the ruins of Quwat-ul-Eslam Mosque, the Indian Gate war memorial, the Embassy Area and Parliament House.

DAY 3:
Today we continue to Mandawa, a remote feudal principality in the centre of the Shekhawati region, where you will have the unique pleasure of staying at the Castle Mandawa. This afternoon you will be at leisure to explore the Castle.

DAY 4:
From Mandawa we will travel to the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri for an en route visit, before continuing to Jaipur, known as the ‘Pink City’ of Rajasthan. Here you can journey back in time to the majestic days of the Raj and Mughals who ruled in pomp and splendour. The rich legacy of their reign is reflected in the sumptuous palaces, huge forts and elegant mansions dotted around this beautiful Indian state. Beyond this picture of extravagance, life in the simple rural villages remains largely as it was centuries ago, despite the fact that the modern world is only a step away.

This afternoon we include a tour of Jaipur including the stunning Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) with its 953 pink sandstone windows, and the splendid Amer Fort, beautifully set against a backdrop of rugged hills. We will stay in Jaipur for two nights.

DAY 5:
This morning we travel to nearby Amber, the ancient Rajput capital, where we will visit to Amber Fort. This former palace of the Rajput rulers sits majestically on a hilltop overlooking a lake, and within its high walls lie magnificent buildings with mosaic walls and shady courtyards. The final part of your journey to the Fort is by elephant - a spectacular entrance!

This afternoon is at leisure to explore more of Jaipur. Perhaps enjoy a spot of souvenir shopping and search for Indian silks, carpets, jewellery and handicrafts at one of the vibrant local markets.

DAY 6:
Today we will continue to Agra - the third point of the Golden Triangle - where we include a city tour and hotel accommodation for one night. You will also enjoy visits to the spectacular 16th Century Agra Fort, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the historic city of Sikandra.

Later today it’s time for what is sure to be one of the most memorable moments of your holiday as we take you to experience the magical Taj Mahal at sunset. Renowned for its architectural magnificence and aesthetic beauty, the Taj Mahal is recognised as one of man's proudest creations and is invariably included in the list of the world's foremost wonders.

DAY 7:
Early this morning an optional excursion will enable you to experience the Taj Mahal at sunrise, a truly unforgettable sight. We will then return to Delhi for a further one-night stay.
