South Africa’s Western Cape Explorer

South Africa isn’t called the ‘world in one country’ for nothing; it’s a perfect destination for holidaymakers offering great scenery, friendly people, fantastic food and wine and a climate ideal for sightseeing. A tour of the Western Cape region is one of ever-changing vistas, lively towns with Cape Dutch architecture, rolling vineyards, soaring peaks and the lush, verdant foliage and dramatic coastal scenery of the Garden Route.

Spend time savouring the European atmosphere in Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautifully located cities best admired from atop Table Mountain, visit the rugged outcrop of Cape Point and wander through the exotic Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Learn to cook in the Bo-Kaap and sample the delicious wines of the Cape, ride an ostrich in Oudtshoorn and a steam train in Knysna.

Itinerary

Day 1: Check in for your flight and then relax with your fellow travellers in the Executive Lounge. Overnight flight to Cape Town.

Day 2: Morning arrival in Cape Town. Meet your Just Friends tour leader/guide for a city tour including Table Mountain. Check in at your hotel. Afternoon at leisure to settle in. Welcome dinner at Africa Café.

Day 3: Full day tour of Cape Peninsula including visits to the fi shing village of Hout Bay, Cape Point and the penguins at Boulders Beach. Afternoon visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4: Full day at leisure in Cape Town or why not do something diff erent with our optional ‘Cape Malay Cooking Experience’. Enjoy visiting local markets together as a group, shopping for ingredients before learning to cook traditional dishes and sampling your own creations. Very informal, great fun. Dinner this evening in the hotel.

Day 5: A full day tour of the winelands region including Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Enjoy a wine and cheese tasting during the day and dinner under the stars, with live music at Spier Wine Estate. Overnight in the winelands.

Day 6: A full day’s drive through the mountain passes and plains of the Klein Karoo desert to the ostrich farming centre of Oudtshoorn. Traditional al fresco dinner at Kobus Se Gat in the Swartberg Mountains. Overnight at Oudtshoorn.

Day 7: Visit the incredible Cango Caves and take an interesting and fun-fi lled tour of Safari Ostrich Farm. Drive on through the Outeniqua Mountains to the coastal resort of Knysna at the beginning of the Garden Route. Dinner in the hotel.

Day 8: Travel to George and board the restored steam train, the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, on its spectacular journey back to Knysna. Relaxing lunchtime cruise on Knysna Lagoon viewing the famous heads. Farewell dinner at JJ’s Restaurant where staff sing traditional songs after dinner.

Day 9: Visit the stunning Tsitsikamma National Park with its unique marine environment and continue along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth. Afternoon flight to Johannesburg and then overnight to London.

Day 10: Morning arrival in London and time to bid farewell to your new friends.
