Travelscope ‘dress gown’ to raise money for Gloucester flood victims
02 August 2007

On Wednesday 1 August 2007, the Gloucester-based holiday company held a ‘Dressing Gown Day’ to raise money for the British Red Cross Appeal and help the less fortunate members of our local community, affected by July’s devastating floods.

Apart from a sea of fluffy dressing gowns, the day kicked off with a feast for the senses with delicious chocolate fountains, fruit kebabs, home-made cakes, biscuits and mouth-watering sausage savouries, as well as lots of other goodies donated (mainly) by Travelscope staff. Other treats throughout the day also included pampering manicures, a special appearance from Seven Sound’s Black Thunder Crew and a photographer from the local paper, The Citizen. All proceeds raised went to the British Red Cross Appeal for flood victims in Gloucestershire.

Area Operations Director of the British Red Cross, Colleen Cleevely, said: "On behalf of the Red Cross, I'd like to thank the staff at Travelscope for their support to the appeal. We know that in most communities there are vulnerable people who will need extra help to rebuild their lives after these devastating floods. Our Floods Appeal will help people in need, such as the elderly, families on low income, and those with disabilities, recover from the devastation.

"Our work in Gloucestershire is still very much ongoing, so far reaching over 5,000 people and delivering 200,000 litres of bottled water. We have staff and volunteers who have been working tirelessly over the last two weeks to help vulnerable individuals and support such as this from Travelscope is a fantastic boost to morale. "

She added: “Money from the appeal will primarily be used by local charities set-up to assist people in the affected areas. Money will be distributed to them via local authorities who may also use part of the money themselves to undertake recovery work.”

The day proved to be great fun and a huge success, and raised an incredible £250 for the appeal. The good nature, hard work and generosity of everyone involved has certainly lifted the spirits of people in Gloucester.
