This Austrian and Bavarian Alpine route is a magnificent journey across the foothills of the Alps. You’ll visit beautiful cities, pass shimmering lakes, fairy tale castles, alpine meadows and gentle hills; all dominated by snow-topped mountain peaks.

Itinerary

Day 1 Transfer by coach to Dover for your morning crossing to Calais. Travel south past the beautiful Rhine to Karlsruhe, founded by Margrave Carl Wilhelm, who dreamt of building a city in the shape of a star. Arrive at your hotel in time for an included evening meal.

Day 2 Enjoy breakfast before continuing to Ulm. This city’s cathedral steeple is the tallest in the world, overlooking the diverse culture and elegance of this city. By afternoon we arrive at Füssen, located above the emerald-green River Lech, and dominated by the Hohes Schloss. Explore the town, or visit castle Neuschwanstein (extra charge). Later, we cross the border into the Austrian Tyrol, climbing the mountains to view the magnificent Zugspitze range, before arriving at the resort of Reutte.

Day 3 Following breakfast, there is free time to explore your surroundings. Alternatively, you can join our optional excursion to Garmisch Partenkirchen and the Zugspitze.

Day 4 Spend today at leisure, or perhaps take advantage of our optional excursion to Vorarlberg and St. Anton. A wander along the pedestrian streets here reveal numerous shops, bars and cafes; all with delicious treats to tempt you.

Day 5 Today we travel east to Lake Constance, driving into the charming Lindau Island. Stroll along the promenade, relax at one of the pavement cafes, or explore the medieval old town. This afternoon, journey around the lake and enjoy fantastic views across Switzerland. We enter the Black Forest, home of the cuckoo clock, the brothers’ Grimm fairy tales and the delicious Black Forest gateau, making a short stop in Triberg en route. Continue north for an overnight stay, arriving at your hotel in time for dinner.

Day 6 After breakfast, leave the Black Forest and journey through France for our early evening crossing to Dover. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your original pick-up point.

Please note Passengers from the north of England or Scotland will take the overnight ferry crossing, departing the day before and returning to their original departure point a day later.
