 Alsace & Swiss Christmas markets itineraryDay one Journey to the airport for your direct flight to Basel. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a four-night stay. Day two Enjoy time at leisure today. Perhaps explore your surroundings, relax at the hotel or join our wonderful optional Interlaken and Brienz excursion. Day three Today we include visits to some of the best Christmas markets in this region. Head to Basel, located in north-west Switzerland on the River Rhine. This wonderful city is renowned for its culture and art, with over 30 museums, Switzerland’s oldest university and the longest illuminated Christmas street in Europe. There are also many superb restaurants and lively bars and cafes to explore and relax in, as well as magical Christmas markets. Browse stalls brimming with fantastic gifts and festive treats, such as hand-made wooden toys, knitted wares, candles and a delicious array of baked and sweet goods. We make our way into France’s Alsace region and to charming Colmar. This delightful town is home to fantastic architecture, including well-preserved old city centre houses and buildings in Gothic and early Renaissance style, as well as the Saint-Martin church. Take time to stroll along the beautiful canals here, and follow the pastel-coloured half-timbered houses to a picturesque area known as ‘little Venice’. Be enticed by the aroma of aniseed-flavoured bridle and cinnamon mulled wine as it wafts in the air from the myriad of wooden stalls selling their Christmas goodies. Later, travel back to your hotel. Day four You have free time to explore this morning, or simply relax at your hotel. Alternatively, take advantage of our optional Lucerne and Bern excursion, taking you to experience the best of these superb destinations. Day five After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel we cross the border into France to visit the Christmas markets of Mulhouse, situated on the Place de la Réunion. The colourful market stalls sit at the foot of the Temple Saint Etienne close to the Town Hall, offering a wide choice of exquisitely crafted gifts and festive gourmet treats. Later, return to the airport for our flight back to the UK.
