Day 1 Join the direct flight to San Francisco. Transfer to our hotel in the city for four nights.
Providing wonderful panoramic views over San Francisco Bay and Pacific Heights, your hotel is about 20 minutes’ walk from the theatres and department stores of Union Square and the markets, restaurants, temples and shops of Chinatown.
Day 2 Enjoy a great introduction to the city with our optional San Francisco, Sausalito & Golden Gate Bridge tour.
Day 3 A day at leisure. Why not take an early morning Powell-Hyde cable car ride down to Fisherman’s Wharf? Be prepared for glorious views of the Bay as the tram crests Nob Hill. For a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience join an afternoon seaplane flight over the city or perhaps take a boat trip out to Alcatraz Island for glorious views of the city.
Day 4 Discover the best of the West Coast on our optional Monterey, Carmel & 17 Mile Drive excursion, a wonderful journey into the heart and soul of California.
Day 5 Depart San Francisco and travel through wine country with an en route stop in the famous wine town of Napa. Check out Napa’s old-fashioned downtown area with its terrific restaurants and atmospheric cafés.
From Napa we will travel to Sacramento, the California State Capital. Admire its Victorian houses, visit the capitol and wander the gardens, or take a stroll around Old Sacramento, four square blocks which contain more than 100 restored Gold Rush era buildings, including restaurants, shops and museums.
Then it’s on to Reno, Nevada for a three-night stay. The self-proclaimed ‘Biggest Little City in the World’ is regarded as a mini Las Vegas.
Day 6 An optional half-day tour to Virginia City brings you pure Western style, with vintage saloons, Honky Tonk music and a vibrant atmosphere.
Day 7 First a visit to Nevada’s historic capital, Carson City. With its rustic beginnings as a frontier town, the city provides a glimpse into the birth of Nevada. Visit the historic district to see the turn-of-the-century mansions, courthouse and brewery. We then take the road to Lake Tahoe, described by Mark Twain as ‘the fairest sight that earth affords.’
Day 8 Depart Reno and transfer to the airport for the return overnight flight to the UK.
Day 9 Arrival in the UK.
