Raise a toast to history and legend on this spellbinding seven-day adventure through Europe’s most enchanting eastern realms; a journey described by soaring spires, mist-wreathed castles, glittering riverside cities, cherished wines and golden beers.

Itinerary

Day 1 Selected early morning coach pick-ups and crossing to Calais, continuing through Germany to the Rhine Valley for a one-night stay.

Day 2 Today we travel to Regensburg, situated on the northernmost bend of the Danube. For a view of the city’s medieval skyline, pastel-coloured houses and Gothic spires, cross the legendary Stone Bridge, built in the 1100s. On to Passau, at the confluence of the rivers Ilz, Inn, and the beautiful blue Danube, for a four-night stay.

Day 3 Morning at leisure in majestic Passau. Perhaps visit Veste Oberhaus castle, or the vastcathedral of St Stephen, boasting the world’s second largest organ, its 17,774 pipes in action daily at noon. Wander the alleyways and courtyards of the old town for excellent shops, restaurants and cafes.

Day 4 Free time in Passau, or an optional excursion to Schärding and Wels.

Day 5 On to southern Bohemia in the Czech Republic and the town of Budweis. Today, beer is king, with special reverence reserved for Budvar, the original ‘Budweiser’. Perhaps take a brewery tour (not included), or set yourself up with a beer at the lively main square, near the mighty Samson fountain. If the Bud emboldens you, ascend the ominous Black Tower for fine views over Budweis.

Day 6 Westward bound for Würzburg, a majestic city on the banks of the Main river in the heart of Franconia, famous for fine wines poured from teardrop-shaped bottles, the glorious Marienberg fortress and gardens, and the best starting point for the stunning Romantic Road. On to the Bavarian city of Schweinfurt for one night.

Day 7 Journey to Calais for the return evening Channel crossing to the UK, returning you to your original departure point.

Please note Passengers from the north of England or Scotland will take the overnight ferry crossing, departing the day before and returning to their original departure point a day later.
