Christmas Markets of the Black Forest, Switzerland & Alsace
Day One Your holiday begins with selected early morning coach pick-ups and a journey to Dover/Folkestone for the 6.45am ferry/Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. Alternatively, we offer overnight hotel accommodation close to port for those who would prefer. After disembarking at Calais, the coach will continue through France and into Germany, arriving at your hotel in The Black Forest in the evening. On arrival, take advantage of our evening meal package and enjoy a meal in the hotel’s restaurant.
Day Two Following breakfast, come with us to the French city of Strasbourg for the first of our included Christmas market excursions. Strasbourg’s superb Christmas market offers a traditional selection of gifts and decorations, accompanied by sumptuous delicacies unique to this borderland region. Strasbourg is a delight to explore, from its magnificent rose-coloured cathedral and covered bridges, to the timbered houses of the old town. We will then travel along the Alsace wine route, stopping at one of the picturesque, old wine villages such as Ribeauville or Riquewihr. For those who have booked the evening meal package, a three-course dinner will be served at the hotel.
Day Three After breakfast, we journey to the Black Forest town of Freiburg, where you are at leisure to explore the market and local shops, perhaps pausing to try a glass of Baden wine. Then, crossing the border to Switzerland, we will arrive at the charming city of Basle. Enjoy the elegant boutiques and lively bars of the well-preserved Old Town and, of course, the city’s excellent Christmas market. Those who have booked the meal package, will again be served a three-course meal in the hotel’s restaurant this evening.
Day Four Following breakfast, take advantage of our optional Black Forest panorama excursion, taking in many of the highlights of this delightful region. Return to the hotel will be in time for your three-course evening meal, if you have pre-booked the package.
Day Five After breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell and join your coach for the journey through Germany to France. We will continue to Calais for your 7.15pm ferry/Eurotunnel crossing to Dover/Folkestone. Upon arrival, we will return you to your original departure point.
