Esztergom & The Holy Basilica

Join us on an excellent excursion to Esztergom, the former royal capital of Hungary from the 10th to mid-13th century. The highlight of this visit is the Esztergom Basilica, the largest cathedral in Hungary and in a spectacular setting overlooking the Danube. Inside, its red marble chapel is famous for being one the finest works of art to have survived in Hungary from the renaissance period. Also to marvel at is the 13.5m x 6.6m altarpiece, depicting the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, by Michelangelo Grigoletti, the largest painting in the world created on a single piece of canvas. You'll also visit the nearby VisigrĂ¡d Castle, nicknamed the 'castle in the clouds' due to its position 350m above the river.
