First to the beautifully preserved Tuscan town of Pienza, before continuing to Montepulciano, a larger hilltop town but equally well preserved. Built on a ridge of volcanic rock the town is surrounded by walls and fortifications and is known for its Renaissance buildings, beautiful churches and cathedral.
