DAY 1:
Join the direct flight to Amman. Transfer on arrival to your hotel in Amman for a two night stay.
DAY 2:
This morning we will travel to the ancient city of Jerash, second only to Petra on the list of top attractions in Jordan. Hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash is now acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world, with paved streets, soaring hilltop temples, majestic theatres and spacious public squares, not to mention plazas, baths and fountains. From here we continue to Ajloun, renowned for its towering Arab-Islamic castle, situated in the midst of sprawling pine forests. We return to your hotel in Amman in time for dinner this evening.
DAY 3:
Today we head south of Amman to visit Mount Nebo, arguably Jordan’s most sacred site and rumoured to be the final resting place of the prophet Moses. We then continue to the remarkable Dead Sea, some 400 metres below sea level, where the salty waters offer an extraordinary level of buoyancy. Take this unique opportunity to float on the mineral-rich waters which are also said to have curative powers! We then continue to our hotel in the Rose Red City of Petra for a one night stay.
DAY 4:
Today we include a full day tour of the awe-inspiring city of Petra, travelling by horseback through the ‘Siq’ – the narrow gorge which leads to the ancient city. Admire the breathtaking architecture carved into the rose-coloured sandstone cliffs and view the historic temples and many other treasures of this magnificent ‘lost’ city, including the famous Treasury Building. Later this afternoon we travel back to Amman airport for the overnight flight to Delhi.
DAY 5:
Early morning arrival in Delhi where you will be greeted with traditional Indian flower garlands and transferred to Manesar Heritage Village for breakfast before departing for Jaipur for a two night stay.
DAY 6:
This morning we travel to Amber, the ancient Rajput capital, where we will visit the Amber Fort. This former palace of the Rajput rulers sits majestically on a hilltop overlooking a lake and within its high walls lie magnificent buildings with mosaic walls and shady courtyards. The final part of your journey to the Fort is atop an elephant – a memorable if somewhat unique way to make an entrance! This afternoon join our included city tour of Jaipur for a fascinating insight to this romantic, colourful city, including its most famous sight, the beautiful Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds).
DAY 7:
A morning departure for Agra via the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri. Built in 1569 by the Emperor Akbar to commemorate the birth of his son, Fatehpur Sikri (the City of Victory) was the capital of the Mughal Empire for 10 years. This wonderful sandstone complex of monuments and temples, all in a uniform architectural style, includes one of the largest mosques in India, the Jama Masjid. This afternoon we include a city tour of Agra, including the spectacular Agra Fort, before continuing to the Taj Mahal to take in the beauty of this magical monument at sunset.
DAY 8:
This morning we make a return visit to the Taj Mahal to admire this amazing architectural feat at sunrise. After this unforgettable experience, we will depart Agra and travel to Delhi for a two night stay. En route we will stop in the town of Sikandra, site of the ornate Mausoleum of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Arrival at your hotel in Delhi is in time for dinner.
DAY 9:
Today we include a fascinating city tour of Old and New Delhi, taking in the magnificent Red Fort and the 17th century Jama Masjid Mosque in Old Delhi and the wide, tree-lined avenues and elegant colonial buildings of New Delhi. As part of the tour you can also experience a ride by traditional rickshaw! We return to your hotel in time for your included evening meal.
