The exotic Mattancherry Palace in particular reflects the city’s close relationships with the Portuguese, Dutch and British. In contrast, the Jewish Quarter is home to one of the oldest synagogues in India, as well as many colourful shops selling silks and handicrafts. Sri Lanka's largest city is full of contrasts, with many distinct areas for you to explore. In the central Fort district you can see sights such as the 150 year-old Clock Tower and the Old Parliament House. To the East, the Pettah bazaar district is crammed with interesting shops and stalls. Away from the hustle and bustle is the city's beautiful seafront, Galle Face Green, and beyond lies the Cinnamon Gardens, home to the lovely 30-acre Vihara Maha Devi Park. In cosmopolitan Georgetown, Penang’s compact capital city, you might like to visit the historic Fort Cornwallis, constructed by the British in the 18th century.
It's hard to imagine that only 200 years ago, Singapore was just a tropical speck on the map. Nowadays it's a dynamic, modern city with one of the world's busiest ports, while still retaining an air of elegance from its former colonial days. Experience panoramic views from Mount Faber; treat your taste buds to exotic dishes or haggle for bargains along colourful Arab Street.
The paradise island of Bali is so beautiful that it could almost be a painted backdrop. Terraced emerald mountains rise from the early mist and rice paddies trip down the hillsides like giant steps. Awesome volcanoes soar up through the clouds, lush tropical jungles blend gracefully into long sandy beaches and the warm blue waters are as clear as glass.
