![]() India: footsteps of the British Raj ItineraryDay 1 Transfer to the airport for your direct overnight flight to Delhi. Day 2 Morning arrival in Delhi. You have the afternoon at leisure, before enjoying an evening sound and light show at the Red Fort, an ornate palace situated along the Yamuna River. Day 3 Today, join the full-day tour of Old and New Delhi. You’ll see the tower of Qutab Minar; Jama Masjid, the largest and most famous mosque in India, and the tomb of Humayun. You’ll also see the fascinating sights of Raj Ghat; where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, the Chandi Chowk market, and the President House and Parliament House. This evening, enjoy shopping around the Connaught Place area. Day 4 Depart for Shimla for a three-night stay. Board the early-morning train for Kalka, also known as the Himalayan Princess. One of India’s most famous hill stations, Shimla is situated in the middle-western ranges of the Himalayas, and is dotted with many pre-independence Victorian buildings. Day 5 This morning, visit the Kufri Valley. Here, you’ll have magnificent views of the majestic Himalayas. In the afternoon, continue to Naldehra, a picturesque city known for having the oldest 9-hole golf course in India, and, at 6,706 feet, it’s one of the highest tee-off points in the world. Day 6 Today, enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Shimla. Travel Shimla’s famous Mall Road, which runs along the ridge and offers excellent views of the mountains. We’ll also visit the Vice Regal Lodge on Observatory Hill. Visit the Himalayan Aviary and the Government Office before returning to the hotel. Day 7 This morning, transfer to Chandigarh. On arrival, check in before an afternoon trip to Sukhna Lake. Day 8 Join the included full-day sightseeing excursion in Chandigarh today. Explore the unique and beautiful Rock Garden, full of various art objects made from industrial and urban waste. Then head to the Rose Garden, spread over 30 acres, it has over 1,600 different species of roses. Day 9 Join your transfer (approx. five hours) to Amritsar, and enjoy an afternoon at leisure. This evening, watch the Beating of the Retreat at the Wagah border, a musical spectacle of sound and colour, and the Change of Guard ceremonies of both the Indian and Pakistani forces. Day 10 Today you can enjoy a city tour of Amritsar. Our first visit will be to the Golden Temple of Amritsar, the ultimate symbol of the magnificence and strength of the Sikh people. Day 11 Enjoy breakfast before transferring to the airport for the afternoon flight back to the UK.
