India: the Golden Triangle Itinerary

London departures

Day 1 Join the overnight flight direct to Delhi.

Day 2 Morning arrival in Delhi. This afternoon we include a sightseeing tour of New Delhi, with its tree-lined avenues and elegant colonial buildings. Highlights include the Qutab Minar, one of the most perfectly preserved towers in the world, the ruins of Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the Indian Gate war memorial, the Embassy Area and Parliament House.

Day 3 Today we continue to Mandawa, a remote feudal principality in the centre of the Shekhawati region, where you will have the unique pleasure of staying at Castle Mandawa.

Day 4 Continue to Jaipur, known as the ‘Pink City’ of Rajasthan. Here you can journey back in time to the majestic days of the Raj and the Mughals who ruled in pomp and splendour. The rich legacy of their reign is reflected in the sumptuous palaces, huge forts and elegant mansions dotted around this beautiful Indian state. This afternoon we include a tour of Jaipur taking in the stunning Hawa Mahal, ‘Palace of the Winds’, with its 953 pink sandstone windows, and the splendid City Palace.

Day 5 This morning we travel to nearby Amber, the ancient Rajput capital, where you journey up to the wonderful Amber Fort by either elephant or jeep. This afternoon is free to explore Jaipur. Perhaps enjoy a spot of souvenir shopping and bargain for Indian silks, carpets, jewellery and handicrafts at one of the vibrant local markets.

Day 6 Today we will continue to Agra, the third point of the Golden Triangle. En route we will visit the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar in 1569. We include a city tour in Agra, which includes the 16th Century Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the historic city of Sikandra.Later today it’s time for what is sure to be one of the most memorable moments of your holiday as we take you to experience the magical Taj Mahal at sunset, renowned for its architectural magnificence, aesthetic beauty and romantic sentiment.

Day 7 Early this morning take our optional excursion to experience the Taj Mahal at sunrise, a truly unforgettable sight. We will then return to Delhi for a city tour of Old Delhi including a traditional rickshaw ride and visit to the imposing Red Fort, dating back to 1648 and Raj Ghat, where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.

Day 8 Morning departure for the airport for the return flight to the UK.

This itinerary includes an extra night in Agra, allowing an extra full day in the city. The order of this itinerary may vary slightly day to day from that given above, but content will be identical.
