 Kenya: a grand safari itineraryDay 1 Join the direct overnight flight to Nairobi. Day 2 On arrival, transfer to the Outspan Hotel where lunch will be served. This afternoon you are free to explore your new surroundings. Day 3 After breakfast, transfer to the Mountain Lodge, situated in the forests of Mount Kenya National Park. This afternoon enjoy viewing game from the lodge balconies as various animals come to visit the waterhole and salt lick. Mount Kenya National Park is a beautiful wilderness, home to many species including the suni antelope, Mount Kenya mole rat, giant forest hog and genet cat. Day 4 Continue to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at our lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon we include a game drive into the woods and around Lake Nakuru, the most famous of the Great Rift Valley lakes and renowned for its magnificent birdlife. The park is a paradise for those interested in ornithology, but also offers the opportunity to see white rhino, leopard, large herds of buffalo and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. Day 5 Enjoy a second game drive around Lake Nakuru National Park. Mid morning, depart for Lake Naivasha. This afternoon we include a boat ride on the lake, where over 400 species of birds have been reported. The waters of the lake also draw a great variety of game to these shores. Day 6 After breakfast, head across the floor of the Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara. This afternoon view game in the Maasai Mara, justifiably one of the most famous reserves in Africa. Look out for giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest and gazelle, as well as their natural predators; lions, leopards and cheetah. Day 7 Today is sure to be one of the highlights of your tour, a full-day game drive in the Maasai Mara National Park, with included picnic lunch. Not only will you be able to see a wide range of exotic animals in their natural habitat, but you may also notice colourfully attired Maasai tribesmen, herding cattle among the plains. Day 8 More time to enjoy the magic of the Maasai Mara National Park with included morning and afternoon game drives. During your time in the Maasai Mara there will be an opportunity to join an optional dawn balloon safari, a truly magical experience. Day 9 Early-morning game drive. After breakfast, drive to Nairobi for an overnight stay, with picnic lunch en route. This evening, enjoy dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant (vegetarian options available). Day 10 Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
