Lake Bled & Austria

Join us on this wonderful tour, visiting the fascinating countries of Slovenia and Austria. Browse cobbled streets lined with traditional cafes, set against a backdrop of glaciers and mountains. You’ll experience wonderful lakes and picturesque islands, and see the church used in ‘The Sound of Music’.

Itinerary

Day 1 to port for the crossing to Calais, and travel to the town of Schweinfurt, Germany, or similar, for an overnight stop.

Day 2 Enjoy a visit to Ingolstadt; a town renowned for its medieval, horseshoe-shaped walls on the north bank of the Danube River. We continue through Austria and into Slovenia.

Day 3 Following breakfast, head to Bled: a ‘Jewel in the Slovenian Crown’. In the middle of these waters is the tiny island of Bled; reached only by little wooden boats known as Pletna, and home to the ornate Church of the Assumption and a beautiful wishing bell. Visit Bled Castle, situated on a rock high above the town. This afternoon, perhaps join our optional excursion to Lipica.

Day 4 A free day to explore; perhaps join our optional Ljubljana city excursion.

Day 5 Today we head to Austria and the area of Salzkammergut. Make an afternoon stop at Wolfgang Lake, the setting for the opera The White Horse Inn, before seeing Mondsee. The baroque church here was used in the wedding scene of The Sound of Music. Continue to your hotel for a two-night stay.

Day 6 Today is at leisure, alternatively, you may like to join our optional excursion to Salzburg.

Day 7 Travel north, stopping en route in Nürnberg. Explore its inner city with its charming market square and ornate fountain. Visit Tiergärtner Tor; full of half-timbered houses and cobbled streets.

Day 8 Travel to port for your early-evening crossing to Dover, transferring to your original pick-up point upon arrival.

Please note Passengers from the north of England or Scotland will take the overnight ferry crossing, departing the day before and returning to their original departure point a day later.
