Enjoy a sensational night of entertainment at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, where skirling pipes, marching Scottish bands and performers from all over the world make this stunning event Scotland’s biggest tourist attraction. We start with a drive along the German Pier ‘Bryggen’, continuing past the 700-year-old Håakon’s Hall. The Rosenkrantz Tower was erected in the 13th Century and reconstructed in the 1560s by the governor of Bergen Castle. Continuing through the city centre, pass a number of important buildings and monuments. On our return, we shall make a stop at the fish and flower market close to the harbour.
|
Drive past the fortress of Bergenhus along the Bryggen. We will walk through small alleyways and learn about the unique architecture and history. Our next stop is at the funicular station. Taking us safely up to 320 meters above sea level, we will see beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains and sea. On our return, we’ll make a stop close to the famous fish and flower market.
|
Going ashore by tender, we join our coach and travel through the Naeroydalen Valley with its many and impressive waterfalls. We stop at the Stalheim Hotel perched high on the mountaintops for refreshments, and have time to enjoy the spectacular views. Descending from Stalheim we will experience the 13 hairpin bends of the old mountain road; the Stalheimskleivi.

Enjoy one of the worlds most renowned and dramatic railway journeys. The Flåm Railway snakes its way along the narrow and steep valleys, through tunnels and past tumbling waterfalls. Stroll along Kirkwall Harbour, enjoy the atmosphere and perhaps find a cosy cafe for a treat or two.
Britain’s most northerly islands, the Shetlands, offer a dramatic history and character all of their own. Many people have landed on Shetland before you, some as early as 3000 BC, the most famous being the Vikings whose influence still prevails today.
Surrounded by seven mountains, the old Hanseatic port of Bergen is renowned as ‘The Gateway to the Fjords’. It has a special place in Norwegian hearts and presents a unique and colourful mixture of charm and culture. Bryggen, the old wharf area with its wooden houses and painted gables, is an example of medieval architecture unsurpassed elsewhere in Scandinavia. During your time here, perhaps take a ride on the Funicular railway.

You can enjoy views of the giant Jostedal glacier; the world’s second largest icefield, and perhaps climb an amazing zigzagging road past cliffs and waterfalls to the giant Briksdal glacier, best known of the Jostedal’s many icy arms.
As your vessel cruises the mighty Sognefjord, celebrated as the country’s longest and deepest fjord, we will approach the tiny Norwegian town of Flåm.
