Oban & the Islands of Mull & Iona |
![]() |

Oban, gateway to Argyll, is the perfect
location in which to start a journey of
the west coast of Scotland. Discover
stunning views, ancient monuments,
legendary castles and glorious gardens.
Surrounded by a beautiful archipelago,
each mist-shrouded island is filled with
mystery and charm; places where Mother
Nature still roams free.
Itinerary
Day 1 Travel north, via the bonnie banks of Loch
Lomond; Scotland’s largest fresh water loch, and
make a short stop in Arrochar (time permitting).
Surrounded by the Arrochar Alps, this wee village
sits at the head of Loch Long.
Day 2 Enjoy breakfast before a morning free to
explore Oban. Visit its famous distillery, home of
the 1 -year-old single malt whisky, and McCaig’s
Tower, which dominates the skyline. Commissioned
by esteemed banker John Stuart McCaig, this
tower ensured the town’s masons had employment
in the winter months. A short walk to the viewing
platform offers incredible views over Oban, the
islands of Mull, Lismore and Kerrera.
This afternoon, drive to Kidnapped country and
enjoy the coastal scenery, heading to Port Appin
and Loch Linnhe. See Castle Stalker, which stands
on a tiny island close to the Isle of Shuna.
Day 3 Today we board the ferry to Mull. from
where you can enjoy views of Duart Castle, the
ancestral seat of the Maclean clan. Continuing
to Craignure, we pass Loch Scridain and arrive in
Fionnphort for the short ferry crossing to the little
Isle of Iona. You can enjoy peace and quiet here,
with no cars allowed and soft white sands lapped
by clear blue seas.
We return to Mull and head to Tobermory, whose
brightly painted houses you may recognise from
the much-loved children’s programme Balamory.
The picturesque harbour is ideal for a spot of
lunch (not included). Return via the east coast,
seeing the Morvan Mountains before taking a
ferry back to Oban. Arrive at your hotel in time for
dinner, and a free bar in the evening.
Day 4 Following breakfast return to England,
making an en route stop at Balloch Visitor Centre
