With the famous rock rising abruptly from the waters, commanding the western entrances to the Mediterranean Sea, there's no cruise destination quite like Gibraltar; one of the fabled 'Pillars of Hercules'.
Situated midway between Sicily and North Africa, the George Cross Island of Malta combines beautiful scenery and ancient sites. We will visit the island's historic capital, Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with steep narrow streets and countless churches. Perhaps take a stroll to the Upper Barracca Gardens for panoramic views of the magnificent Grand Harbour, with an array of impressive baroque architecture, or maybe visit the stunning St. John's cathedral.
Located at the entrance to the Suez Canal, Port Said is our gateway to the treasures of Egypt. From here you will have the opportunity to join an optional shore excursion to Egypt's legendary capital city, Cairo, offering a fascinating combination of the ancient and modern. Visit the spectacular Pyramids of Giza, guarded by the awesome Great Sphinx, head to the famous Egyptian Museum where you can admire the gold mask of Tutankhamen.
After cruising the Suez Canal, we will arrive at the sophisticated Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, renowned as a heaven for diving and snorkelling, with warm blue waters and golden sands. There are many dive shops in the resort, catering for all levels of experience, giving you the opportunity to discover a wonderland of offshore reefs teeming with colourful coral and a myriad of fishes. Or you might simply like to find your spot on the golden sands and soak up the sun in style.
Hugging the shores of the Indian Ocean, Salalah is beautifully set among miles of white, sandy desert, flanked by magnificent mountain scenery and captivating beaches. Known as the perfume city of Arabia, it is one of the few places on Earth where the trees that produce frankincense grow, which is available to buy in the traditional markets. The tomb of the prophet Job can be visited at nearby Mount Eiteen.
The ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’ has long been a centre for International trade, reflected by the fascinating blend of cultures in this vibrant city. The exotic Mattancherry Palace in particular reflects the city’s close relationships with the Portuguese, Dutch and British. In contrast, the Jewish Quarter is home to one of the oldest synagogues in India, as well as many colourful shops selling silks and handicrafts. Head to the harbour area and you’ll even find fishermen using traditional Chinese nets, while the beautiful St. Francis Church is where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama was first buried.
Sri Lanka's largest city is full of contrasts, with many distinct areas for you to explore. In the central Fort district you can see sights such as the 150 year-old Clock Tower and the Old Parliament House. To the East, the Pettah bazaar district is crammed with interesting shops and stalls. Away from the hustle and bustle is the city's beautiful seafront, Galle Face Green, and beyond lies the Cinnamon Gardens, home to the lovely 30-acre Vihara Maha Devi Park. The National Museum and Art Gallery are alive with culture, while the many traditional mosques and temples offer a real insight into Sri Lankan life.
Welcome to the 'Land of Smiles'. Blessed with palm-fringed white sands, magnificent bays and secluded coves, the friendly island of Phuket is renowned as one of Thailand's best beach resorts. Spend your afternoon relaxing on one of the idyllic, sun-kissed beaches and perhaps take a dip in the clear warm waters. Or head into the city and explore the historical district with fine examples of Sino-Portuguese architecture.
The island of Penang, 'Pearl of the Orient', is one of the oldest British settlements in Malaysia and has long been one of South East Asia's finest destinations with outstanding beaches and many exotic sights including the legendary Snake Temple and beautiful Kek Lok Si Temple. In cosmopolitan Georgetown, Penang’s compact capital city, you might like to visit the historic Fort Cornwallis, constructed by the British in the 18th century.
It's hard to imagine that only 200 years ago, Singapore was just a tropical speck on the map. Nowadays it's a dynamic, modern city with one of the world's busiest ports, while still retaining an air of elegance from its former colonial days. Travel back to the time of Sir Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore in 1819, as you enjoy high tea, and maybe a Singapore Sling, in the colonial splendour of Raffles Hotel. Experience panoramic views from Mount Faber; treat your taste buds to exotic dishes or haggle for bargains along colourful Arab Street.
The paradise island of Bali is so beautiful that it could almost be a painted backdrop. Terraced emerald mountains rise from the early mist and rice paddies trip down the hillsides like giant steps. Awesome volcanoes soar up through the clouds, lush tropical jungles blend gracefully into long sandy beaches and the warm blue waters are as clear as glass.
Closer to Asia than Sydney, Darwin is set upon one of Australia's prettiest harbours, opening out onto the brilliant, jewel-like waters of the Arafura Sea. Much of the city's activity is based around the harbour with superb dining, friendly cafes and a selection of water sports available. For a taste of the city's rich history, perhaps take a boat trip to discover a number of nearby sunken wrecks from World War II, or visit the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
This beautiful city is located in the heart of Queensland's tropical north coast, framed by the Great Barrier Reef, and you will have the opportunity to visit this magnificent natural treasure, teeming with colourful coral reefs and tropical marine life. During your time in the city, be sure to take a stroll along the Cairns Esplanade, almost two kilometres of landscaped parkland with a busy restaurant strip on one side and a natural harbour inlet on the other. We berth overnight in Cairns, giving you the chance to sample the city's vibrant nightlife including a variety of welcoming bars.
Capital of the French colony of New Caledonia, Nouméa is known as the 'St. Tropez of the Pacific' and is situated on the south-eastern tip of the island of Grand Terre, overlooking one of the world's largest sheltered natural harbours. Attractions include the Place des Cocotiers with its monumental fountain and the Botanical Gardens and Zoo.
Sunny, unique and unspoiled, the Fiji Islands offer 1,000 miles of pristine white sand beaches, coral gardens and azure lagoons. Fiji's capital city, Suva, is one of the South Pacific's largest and most sophisticated cities, with many post-colonial buildings and the Fiji Museum. The Municipal Market offers a taste of the island's multicultural flavour.
Affectionately known as the 'Rock of Polynesia', Niue is reputedly the world's largest coral island, boasting dramatic coastal scenery, amazing cave formations and many exotic birds and butterflies. We will call at its capital, Alofi, which stretches along the coast where Captain James Cook unsuccessfully tried to come ashore via the Opaahi Landing in 1774.
Capital of the Cook Islands, Rarotonga is dominated by high mountain peaks, from which lush rain forests cascade to inviting white sands and clear turquoise waters. Head to one of the picturesque lagoons for great swimming and snorkelling opportunities, or simply stroll on one of the pristine beaches and soak up the sun in your own piece of paradise.
The flaming colours and ardent beauty of French Polynesia inspired many of Paul Gauguin's most famous paintings, no place more so than Tahiti and its capital, Papeete. Imagine incredible topical blooms, amazing sunsets and waters speckled with striking shades of blue and green. Then there's the compelling French influence, especially with regard to the city's fabulous cuisine and great shopping, which includes black pearls and designer fragrances.
Largest of the hauntingly beautiful Marquesas Islands, Nuku Hiva is known for its towering peaks, secluded coves, lush valleys and fjord-like bays. We will call at its capital, Taiohae, hugging a beautiful bay for nearly 3.5km, where you might like to visit the Herman Melville memorial (who made nearby Taipivai famous in his novel Typee) or climb Mt. Muake.
Known as the 'Pearl of the Pacific', the cosmopolitan coastal city of Guayaquil offers many attractions. Head to the historic Las Peñas Neighbourhood and discover a number of art galleries, visit the intriguing artisan market in search of local crafts, jewellery and paintings, or stroll the city's main park where you can see live iguanas. In the evening, explore the restored waterfront strip, El Malecón, and perhaps sample one of the delicious seafood dishes for which this city is renowned.
Linking the magnificent Pacific Ocean to the beauty of the Caribbean Sea, the Panama Canal is one of humanity's greatest engineering achievements. As Athena cruises through the narrow canal you'll be treated to spectacular views of tropical rainforests, enlivened by colourful birds and gibbering monkeys.
Named after the Dutch Royal House of Oranje, you could be forgiven for thinking that you are actually in Holland when you visit Aruba's charming capital city, Oranjestad. The Dutch influence can be clearly seen along the palm-fringed central thoroughfare, lined with pastel-painted buildings topped with traditional Dutch tiles. However, visit the wharf area where merchants sell fresh fish straight from their boats, and you'll soon realise that you're in the Caribbean.
Few islands in the Caribbean are more beautiful than St. Lucia, the ‘Jewel of the Windward Islands’. The range of scenery here is breathtaking, with the dramatic twin volcanic peaks, the Pitons, soaring 2,000 feet up from the sea and magnificent rainforests boasting wild orchids, giant ferns and tropical wildlife. There are also many unspoilt beaches, sheltered by spectacular coral reefs.
You can be sure of a warm welcome in Barbados, the 'Little England' of the Caribbean. We will visit the island's laid-back capital, Bridgetown, lined with handsome colonial buildings. Enjoy an exotic rum cocktail in one of the many bars, try Bajan specialties or find your spot on one of the sandy beaches.
Christmas Day will be spent cruising the Caribbean Sea. We include a traditional Christmas Dinner on board to get you in the festive spirit.
Blessed by a climate that’s almost perfect all year round, the sub-tropical paradise island of Madeira is a haven for those seeking peace, quiet and pure relaxation.
This evening, welcome in the New Year in style with a special dinner and party night on board. You will also be able to admire Madeira’s famous firework display, set off from over 50 points across the island.

If you book a twin bed outside cabin of Grade 6 or above, a third person can occupy your cabin for a great-value price(upper-berth). In a Grade 5 cabin and above, a third and a fourth person can join for the entire duration of the cruise for an excellent price! (Please note that this does not apply to Grade 4 cabins.)
