England's Jonny Wilkinson resumed light training on friday after suffering a kidney problem. Wilkinson now 27, suffered a lacerated kidney in Newcastle's win over Bristol back in November and it is thought that he could return to first class rugby in two months.

He played the full 80 minutes in the Bristol match but believes he suffered the injury after 20 minutes in the match.

"We haven't put a date on it, but realistically it may be some time during the Six Nations," said Falcons director of rugby John Fletcher.

"He is in a great frame of mind and also in fantastic condition."
