Bergen, Norway

Surrounded by seven mountains, the delightful old Hanseatic port of Bergen is renowned as ‘The Gateway to the Fjords’. It has a special place in Norwegian hearts and presents a unique and colourful mixture of charm and culture. Bryggen, the old wharf area with its wooden houses and painted gables, is an example of medieval architecture unsurpassed elsewhere in Scandinavia. During your time here, you might like to take a ride on the Funicular railway.

Ulvik, Norway

Image: Featured Holiday Placeholder

As we make our way towards Ulvik, you will be cruising into some of Norway’s most dramatic coastal waters, lined with idyllic coves and weather beaten cliffs, winding inland to the spectacular Hardangerfjord. You will be taken by boat to this peaceful little village, known as ‘The Flower of the Hardangerfjord’. The village offers an old-world charm and you can sit and enjoy the peaceful lapping of the clear waters. You might also like to enjoy a glass of the refreshing local beer, some heady aquavit or even one of those tempting Norwegian pastries.

Eidfjord, Norway

The pretty village of Eidfjord is situated at the top of the Hardangerfjord, against a unique backdrop of sand and gravel terraces, which were left behind when the ice melted some 9000 years ago. Today, the plentiful supply of water and the fast-flowing rivers tumbling down the hillsides make this area ideal for the production of hydro-electric power.

Flåm, Norway

As your vessel gently cruises the mighty Sognefjord, celebrated as the country’s longest and deepest fjord, we will approach the tiny Norwegian town of Flåm. Here you can join our famous Norway in a nutshell tour. Take a journey on the Flåm Mountain Railway and embark on a 12-mile 3,000-foot climb, plunging through tunnels and zigzagging between mountaintops, before finally emerging at lofty Myrdal. The train travels slowly and even stops at some of the finest views to ensure you experience the full impact of this wild and beautiful region. On reaching the mountain plateau you can change trains and continue to Voss, well known for its 13th century stave church. Those who choose not to join the optional Norway in a Nutshell excursion from Flåm will cruise on to Vik or Gudvangen, as stated.
