Bergen

Introduction to Bergen

We start with a drive along the German Pier ‘Bryggen’, continuing past the 700-year-old Håakon’s Hall. The Rosenkrantz Tower was erected in the 13th Century and reconstructed in the 1560s by the governor of Bergen Castle. Continuing through the city centre, pass a number of important buildings and monuments. On our return, we shall make a stop at the fish and flower market close to the harbour.

City tour with Bryggen & Mt. Fløien Funicular

Drive past the fortress of Bergenhus along the Bryggen. We will walk through small alleyways and learn about the unique architecture and history. Our next stop is at the funicular station. Taking us safely up to 320 meters above sea level, we will see beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains and sea. On our return, we’ll make a stop close to the famous fish and flower market.

Ulvik

Leave Ulvik and drive alongside the Osafjord to the small hamlet of Osa. A winding road takes us through spectacular wild mountain scenery. Descend to Osa, stopping to see the Stream Nest, a sculpture by the Japanese artist Takamasa Kuniyasu, There will be time for a short walk and to take photographs before returning to Ulvik, where we will see gardens of the Horticultural College; the tour ends at Brakanes Hotel.

Eidfjord

Driving through the village of Eidfjord before continuing through the steep Måbødalen Valley. This road will take us to the enormous Hardanger Plateau, where we will find Norway’s largest National Park. We will make a stop at the Vøringsfossen Waterfall, one of Norway’s most famous waterfalls. The Hardangervidda Nature and Wildlife Centre will be our next stop. Before returning to Eidfjord, visiting the Sysen Dam en route.

Stavanger

Drive through the harbour area for a sightseeing tour of Stavanger. En route, the coaches pass Hafrsfjord; where a historic sea battle was fought. A visit will be made to a reconstructed farm from the Iron Age, and on our return we pass the Ledaal Manor. On arriving back, we shall visit the Cathedral. Our tour ends with a walk through the old part of Stavanger.

Cruising in Lysefjord

Our cruise takes us through an area full of small idyllic islands. We continue to Lysefjord, home to the Pulpit Rock just over 1,500 feet over the sea; cruising directly under it. We then make a stop at the picturesque beach at Helleren where coffee, tea and waffles are served. Cruising back to Stavanger, enjoy a splendid view of the city before arriving at the harbour.

Rosendal

One of the most enjoyable ways to visit Rosendal is by horse and carriage. Travelling through the village and along country lanes you’ll see Kvinnherad Church, and the Barionet Rosendal one of the most important museums in Norway. Refreshments will be served at a local hotel.

Stavanger

The medieval city of Stavanger is known as the oil capital of Norway and offers a charming combination of old and new. Explore the quaint narrow lanes and you’ll discover traditional white-timber houses and a stone church dating back to the 12th century, while the modern area of the city boasts a wide variety of shops, open-air cafes and cosmopolitan restaurants; all set against a stunning backdrop of natural fjord and mountain scenery.

Ulvik, Norway

As we make our way towards Ulvik, you will be cruising into some of Norway’s most dramatic coastal waters, lined with idyllic coves and weather beaten cliffs, winding inland to the spectacular Hardangerfjord. You will be taken by boat to this peaceful little village, known as ‘The Flower of the Hardangerfjord’. The village offers an old-world charm and you can sit and enjoy the peaceful lapping of the clear waters. You might also like to enjoy a glass of the refreshing local beer, some heady aquavit or even one of those tempting Norwegian pastries.

Eidfjord, Norway

The pretty village of Eidfjord is situated at the top of the Hardangerfjord, against a unique backdrop of sand and gravel terraces, which were left behind when the ice melted some 9000 years ago. Today, the plentiful supply of water and the fast-flowing rivers tumbling down the hillsides make this area ideal for the production of hydro-electric power.

Rosendal

As you make your way into Rosendal, you will be cruising through some of Norway’s most dramatic coastal waters, including the spectacular Hardangerfjord; famous for its striking scenery with backfrop of imposing mountains, waterfalls and glaciers. Renowned for its beauty, boat building and Renaissance castle and gardens, Rosendal is set against a background of blossoming trees and snow-topped mountains.

Surrounded by seven mountains, the delightful old Hanseatic port of Bergen is renowned as ‘The Gateway to the Fjords’. It has a special place in Norwegian hearts and presents a unique and colourful mixture of charm and culture. Bryggen, the old wharf area with its wooden houses and painted gables, is an example of medieval architecture unsurpassed elsewhere in Scandinavia. During your time here, you might like to take a ride on the Funicular railway.

Special Note

3rd and 4th persons occupying a cabin
In addition to our designated three and four berth cabins, we have arranged for the third and fourth berths in higher grade cabins to be sold for an incredible price. If you book a twin bed outside cabin of Grade 6 or above, a third person can occupy your cabin for a great-value price(upper-berth). In a Grade 5 cabin and above, a third and a fourth person can join for the entire duration of the cruise for an excellent price! (Please note that this does not apply to Grade 4 cabins.)

Please note:

  • Inside cabins rely on artificial light
  • Outside cabins have a porthole (deck 4), window (deck 5 and above)
  • The term berth refers to an upper and lower bunk style bed
  • The upper berth is accessed via a small ladder
  • Two bedded cabins have two lower beds
  • Some two bedded cabins have additional fold-away upper berths which are not used when the cabin is occupied by two passengers
  • Third and fourth passengers sharing cabins are always accommodated in upper berths
  • All cabins are non-smoking
